Filming on Sleepy Hollow would begin in the middle of November 1998 that Burton and his team would decamp there. There had been a consideration very early on between Emmanuel Lebesky and Tim Burton about shooting in black and white and perhaps even shooting in the Academy ratio. The decision was made very early on there was no way this was going to pander for a PG-13 and a family friendly rating they were going to have an awful lot of fun doing him.
