Annie Wilkes is an ex nurse who just loves to read her favorite writer Paul Sheldon's trashy novels. Annie saves Paul from a near-fatal car crash and takes him home to restore him to health. When she reads his new book where Paul has killed off her favorite character, Misery, Annie loses all semblance of the caring nurse she's been playing. As the local police investigate Paul's disappearance, Annie will do anything to keep him in her home including some extreme tactics involving her sledgehammer. The film is a masterclass intention and ends with an invalidated Paul fighting for his life against his biggest fan.
