Before about 5 million years ago, there really wasn't desert as we know it today. There would have been like pockets of kind of dry climbing. But that 30 degrees high pressure system has likely always been there. So you can imagine that the low deserts were even more tropical in terms of their foliage. It looks like just a high elevation desert super rocky, lots of volcanics, no trees.
