The Importance of the Princes in the Empire

The princes felt reassured that their rights would not be taken away by a more assertive emperor, because they are based on rank. It also meant that the princes were now integrated into the imperial project. 19th century historians often criticize Frederic's charters of 1220 and 1232 as the nale in the coffin of any hope of early statehood for Germany. I would agree that these decisions cemented development already underway, that may, but really only just may have been reversed.
