How Much Spice Do You Want to Put in to a Romance?

i'm curious how you decide, with this being an adult romance, how much spice you wanted to put into it. I think for me, a lot of it is about the tone of the book. You know, how does the spice level fit the tone? Cause i deftly feel like i've read books hat are closed door and that just felt so right to me. If they had thrown in a sex scene, it actualy would have really thrown me,. And i don't think i would have liked it in the context of this book.
