Bernie Tida's Trial in San Augustine
In 1999, Bernie Tida is convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Not long after Skip Holland's Worth and Texas-based filmmaker Richard Linklater write a screenplay about Bernie called Bernie. The script sits on a shelf for a decade before finally being produced. It's released in 2011 to critical acclaim. Marjorie Nugent's family, of course, hates this movie. They feel like everyone, journalists, the criminal justice system and many members of the public are being conned by Bernie.
