The Treaty of Versailles was signed at the end of World War I. The U.S., Britain, France and Italy felt that they had sacrificed to more than their allies in the war,. They also wanted to weaken Germany as much as possible so that it couldn't rise again. What this leads to is a peace treaty that maintains some of the fundamental conflicts of the imperial system.
