The Problem With Economic Freedom
The problem with any kind of freedom is that those who have certain sorts of benefits through luck or whatever tend to exploit those who don't. The main move in free-market fairness is to say, well, if we think that economic liberties should be recognized morally speaking as among the basic rights and liberties, then how do we get distributive justice? My basic idea is that we need to have a social world in which all citizens can look upon the talents of their fellow citizens as in some sense a common bounty. We're looking for a structure which best encourages talent to people like Stephen Jobs or Wiltschamberlain.
