Belief, Resistance, and the Rise of Zealots

This chapter examines the tendency for people to believe what they want to hear without fact-checking and the fear and resistance towards societal changes that leads to the rise of zealots and cult leaders. The example of QAnon is used to illustrate this phenomenon and the historical roots of the courting of the Christian right by Republicans is explored.
