Many people that stay long term in these relationships will then start to go into a freeze response. So my interpretation of my ex-husband was, he's being like this because of me, I need to change. The power then in healing is not in changing the narcissist. We cannot change the abuse. The narcissist won't change. What we hold on to is trauma. Trauma doesn't have to be a life sentence.
