The song comes in and it's really going on as actually the mother of all fake outs. This is like the super long con version of a fake out intro because in fact everything that's singing is an upbeat. Once you remove that pulse your ear just naturally begins to gravitate toward those up beats being down beats but if you can count it you can actually count the entire song at a consistent tempo from start to finish without anything changing. There's a couple of odd phrase lengths but there's no odd meter in this entire song. It's a steady tempo. A whole bunch of the song is syncopated.
