Lysander of sparta exemplified the qualities that made the spartans both admired and feared. He was clever, inscrutable, conniving and even ruthless to his enemies. Laconic when they speak few words yet say much. That's how they aimed to talk. And they still inspire us. Their name evokes a certain set of ideals. And they inspired the romans too.
