The Importance of Separating Planning Time

Some of our best and most important thinking can only be done when we're asleep. So if you try to do it all in one shot, you are almost by definition, not going to be successful. For things like what we call a chapter, which is maybe two months, quarterly, certainly longer than that, I think at a bare minimum, you've got to separate the time where you initially read on the proposals.
