The Prostitution of Athenaeus

Famous attire of the 4th century BC was Naira. She had been a slave prostitute in Corinth and became a favorite of a wealthy client, who bought her freedom and set her up as his mistress. Athenaeus alleges that Franny was so rich that she offered to fund the rebuilding of the walls of Thebes after having been destroyed by Alexander the Great in 336 BC.
