Embryonics
sam is trying to dissect out the changes that lead to one cell assuming a particular identity. In studying how embryos develop, she is actually elucidating the map of the possible developmental decisions. It's important because it allows her to think about medically relevant issues and how we might repair or replace disease organs. She seeks to engineer cells to not transplant back into patients to treat them, but also to use the engineered cells as a tool to study disease and development in the lab.
