The History of Probability by Emanuel Cardano

Cardano was a physician and mathematician from milan, among many other things. He wrote book called libe de ludo ali, which is the book on the games of chance. It's particularly interesting because people hold up the pascal fermat correspondence of 16 54 as the sort of beginning of probability theory. Yet here was cardano writing around 15 50, more than 100 years earlier.
