He proved boothia was an island, rather than a peninsular. He went on four other expeditions to the arctic with william parry. And june 18 31, he located the magnetic north pole. Also skippered his own expedition to antarctica between 18 39 and 40. The ross ice shelf, which obusy was named after him, the ross sea. And ross's gull, which is a antarctic sea bird, is also named after him.
