Do You Have a Nuclear Warhead?
In 1949, the Soviets exploded an atomic bomb and China became communist that same year. The idea that you could have this Soviet stooge just off the coast of Florida, what is it, 90 miles to Cuba? I mean, this isn't something that the US can accept. But the other side of it that you've alluded to is the fear of triggering a nuclear war at any time. So this is why you get into covert operations, and this really goes to the beginning of the CIA. It was meant to be the covert wing of the executive branch of the American government,. so that you could fight communism, but do it without causing a nuclear conflict with the Soviet Union.
