The Pandemic Response - What's the Story?

Is this just a simple story about the power of business in american capitalism prevailing over public health and human lives? Not that that's a simple story. But i think we also have to look at other capitalist countries that have done much better than us, or somewhat better than us. And even canada has maintained less than half the mortality rate over the entire course of the pandemic. So part of it was thes rightwing a politicians at the state and local level pushing back against what we call non pharmaceutical interventions.
