The Role of Stages in Breast Cancer
For stage 3, this is broken up into 3A, 3B, and 3C. Stage 4 would be any distant metastasis. For a small tumor, the patient can undergo a lumpectomy and whole breast radiation,. which would be considered equivalent to a mastectomy. So early stage 1, 2, surgery first, generally lumpectomy, whole breast radiation. And then you add on, depending on your findings, you'll have adjuvant chemo, adjuvant hormone therapy.
