The Impact of the Chinese Exclusion Act on American Immigration
The Chinese Exclusion Act was enacted in 1882 by President Chester Arthur. By 1924, most Asians were banned from coming into the country. The quota for Chinese after exclusion was repealed in 1943 was only 105 a year total. It's sort of horrifying to hear that history, but also sounds very familiar when you throw words out like immigration ban and COVID.
