Advice for Psychoanalysts
Psychologist explains why he doesn't give advice to people. He says part of therapy is feeling genuine and being genuine as therapists. One piece of advice that he finds himself giving most frequently is ' upward comparison' It's a concept from social psychology, the idea of upward and downward comparison. Do you want to see yourself through the eyes of upward comparison or do you want tosee yourself through the Eyes of downward comparison? If you use upward comparisons that makes you feel poor and hard done by. If you use downward comparisons I have more food than B who actually has to really scrabble for food it makes you feel wealthy in comparison.
