Nesting Beach for a Sea Turtle

Turtles that have feeding grounds in Australia within five or ten miles of a good nesting beach will swim 700 miles back to their home area. University of North Carolina biologist Ken Lohmann: "The drive for it to happen is very, very strong" A female sea turtle lays roughly 2,000 eggs in its lifetime and probably only two of her babies are going to survive. From the mother turtle's perspective, the only place in the world that is absolutely certain to have everything exactly right is the beach she herself hatched out on.
