Highjacker had listed himself as dan cooper, and the authorities thought perhaps he was stupid enough to use his real name. They also interviewed witnesses, including passengers, and developed composite sketches of him with police artists two of which you see in this episode's art work. How quickly did they start getting suspects? Very quickly, and not simply because of the sketches. And that's how the name d b cooper passed into popular into popular currency.
