The Polar Divide: The Monolith and the Distributed Monolith

I really like to think of them as satellites. Where asynchronous things become services and they, those things can scale up and down as needed. So chipping pieces out of the monolith, is that the fair term? I would say so. But there seems to be this polar divide and these two camps.
