The Relationship Between Nietzsche and the Ascetic Ideal
I didn't think we had enough time to cover some of the things we glossed over. That's an immensely complex topic. I was not really interested. Fiona did briefly touch on it under the heading of truth, but precisely because Nietzsche is seeking truth about morality and about the ascetic ideal more generally he has to recognize that he's coming out of an ascetic profile. He does have to acknowledge a certain kind of indebtedness to the very phenomenon that he's engaging in this polemical critique. It's very easy to read him as just a kind of uniformly harsh critic of the phenomena, but he has an amazing amount of respect in certain ways for what? Slave morality and the
