The Sublimatory Process of Marcuse's Seminar Seven
The drive is a very strong process of what I would call de-sublimation. Lacan doesn't distinguish between different types of sublimation at the level of socially appropriate stand-ins for prohibited objects. They're all for him kind of like nasty, shitty experiences that we nevertheless endure in order to get our little kicks off. The logic of the drive, as I understand it, is to de-sublimate and move from those objects that plug the hole around which the drive circulates.
