The Importance of Race in the History of George Washington
In 1769 Thomas Jefferson his first act as a member of the House of Produces was to co-sponsor a law of a bill that would have allowed slaveholders to emancipate their slaves volunteer in 1769 you could sell a slave and you could not free sell. And that bill failed. Washington died in 1799. Was it illegal when he let them go? Yeah so I mean one reason I don't want to answer any questions in this podcast is because you're asking me about points in fact. So these are the opinions. It seems to me would be just dreadful to dismiss George Washington as a slaveholder and then lose what we can learn from him.
