The Book of Job Is a Story, Right?
The hebrew scriptures, riht, which is the jewish name for what we call the old testament, is divided into three fundamental parts. Do we know anything about how those books were compiled? And so there's a recognition right there that there are radically different types of writings in each genre. It isn't the case that we should read the bible as literature, but we should read it with with sympathy and respect for the literariness of the prophecies and the psalms and theand the stories that are there.
