The Russians' Fear of NATO Invasion

The Russian leadership has made the catastrophic mistake of starting this invasion. They're not worried about escalation on their flank with NATO at this point, because if they were, they wouldn't have drawn down their forces the way they have. If that SAM coverage is allowed to degrade to a point where no longer poses a prohibitive threat at medium level, then I think we'll see quite heavy VKS involvement.
