The Byzantine Empire and the Crusades

Byzantine glory would decline dramaticaly before the century was over with the rise of the selguc turks in the middle east. The byzantines, under the paliologos dynasty, would reclaim constantinople and defend it from the latins until they realized that they were unable to take back the ottoman empire. During the thirteenth century,. the new latin empire based in constantinople soon proved to be an unstable one. And so a latin contingent would take control of the city, and the byzantine royal dynasty would be exiled., and control of constantinople was lost.
