Less than 1% of the deep sea has ever been seen with human eyes or seen with a camera. Deva Aymon is director of species and ocean conservation group based in Trinidad and Tobago. She joins calls from other conservationists to stop Paul's deep-sea mining until more is known.

As the International Seabed Authority gathers in Jamaica to thrash out regulations for mining the deep sea, Chris Michael of the Guardian’s Seascape team gives Ian Sample the background to this highly contested decision.
