The Problem of Utilitarianism
The biggest problem for objectifying utilitarianism is going from the intuitive and seemingly self-evident notion that a person's pleasure is good for them. David Hsuemus thought to preempt non-cognitivism and emotivism because he accepts this premise that moral claims are intrinsically motivating are it doesn't make sense to talk about non-motivating ethical claims. If you're in like an ethical a motiveist then the difference between ethical reasoning and the motivation for ethical action just become the same thing as ethics is itself an expression of emotion.
