And there are an awful lot of independent sovereign states in places where it used to be the russia empire. We can think about the baltic states, we can think about poland. Beyond ukraine, there's moldova, there's romania, there's slovakia. The question becomes, if puten thinks he has nothing to lose and believes that stoking the fires of russian nationalism will bolster him domestically
