Aaron Carroll: Can we improve things by doing therapeutic drug monitoring and trying to be more precise with our dosing of beta lactams? He says a study in Germany enrolled adult patients with severe sepsis or septic shock they were being treated with pippericillin tesobactam. The most common infection source was pneumonia but only about two third or closer one third of patients actually received combination therapy, he says. Carney: We're really concerned about those pkpd changes because we know these people are getting totally tanked up with fluid.
