Diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes in the First Trimester

The other broad controversy in assessment is what to do in the first trimester. We don't actually have any randomized controlled trial data that says that first trimester diagnosis of mild hyperglycemia has benefits. Because there are no data to guide what reasonable cutoffs might be, it's difficult to develop a gold standard for what the diagnosis of gestational diabetes should be based upon.
