Heinlein's Steel Beach

The main character is an artist whose art form consists of creating storms with the weather control technology in the Disneyland that they all live in. And so he's Varley's incredibly inventive and he comes up with these extremely vivid, totally believable ideas. One technique that Heinlein makes Heinlein such a great writer is his capacity to hint at a backstory or to hint at technology and make the reader sort of feel in the blanks on his own.
