Aristotle thought that they were not. And then later, the ancient commentatorsthought that they were. Can we conceive of syllogisms or arguments in general having this kind of unity? The first question you need to ask yourself is whether arguments are the kinds of entities to which one can attribute form a matter. A lot of people I think don't take the metaphysical perspective sufficiently seriously.
