John Stuart Mill was a member of Parliament and presented the first mass petition for women's suffrage, which got 1499 votes. He moved an amendment that the word man would be replaced by person - opening up the possibility of female voting. The text he leaves behind is still utterly relevant to today according to his own view on life.
