Physicists, What Is Matter?
In the early 19 twenties, most homes didn't have electricity. So understanding the atom was really a matter of building small radioactive sources. To do any kind of detailed experiment, you'd have to set it up in a glass t usually. And then block most of what was coming out of it and leave like a narrow slit so that you could control the direction of the particles.
