The Idea of the Vague

Atomism is an attempt to explain the nature of matter in a way that would shed light on its structure. The idea comes from two philosophical schools, one led by Heraclitus and the other by Parminides. atomism attempts to bridge the divide between these positions through motion and recombination. As many as 2,500 years ago, philosophers argued against it - even though scientists have since accepted it.
