In the fifties, researchers at stanford University came up with an idea to bring together a bunch of images and help people recognize objects in them. They needed two things to make this work after fifty years of struggle: The data, which meant the photos, and they needed the processing power. And those two things converged in two thousand twelve. But even then, like, you know, not a lot of people believed....
