Genesis 3.15: The First Promise of the Gospel

The covenant of grace was present even in the days of Adam shortly after the fall and had the power to save. No one has ever been saved except through faith in Christ, either the promised Messiah or us looking back upon the Messiah who has come. I've grown to really appreciate Second London Confession on this point using the language of promise and fulfillment.
