I almost think there's a certain Buddhist inflection to evangelicalism. The idea that a man might assert his own interest or himself is completely delegitimized, treated as almost sinful in the evangelical church. It's actually a good thing to be in charge of something. There's nothing wrong with wanting to be in leadership. We just don't have a culture which suppresses and delegitimizes that.
