William and his army were trekking through the north of England when they came under attack from Northumbrians. As if defending off furious locals during a freezing rainstorm in the freaking Pennines wasn't bad enough, there was also the issue of provisions. And adding to the morale problem was the tiny fact that this campaign had been a disgusting display of violence and cruelty.
