The Story of the Rapuny People
British archaeologist and anthropologist Catherine Ratledge heads the project known as the Manner Expedition. Supported by the British Museum and the Royal Geographical Society, her team stays on the island for 17 months. With the help of an islander named Juan Tepano, she makes detailed records of the Moai statues and excavates more than 30 of them. Despite having no formal training in the skills and techniques of archaeological excavation, her work provides a platform for future generations of archaeologists.
