The Crowds and the People

Matthew 21 verse 2: Will you the daughter of Zion behold thy king cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an asse and a coal? Luke's account in 19 verse 37 says, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen. During the triumphal entry, the Pharisees are really bothered that he's getting that level of reception. Is it possible that the reason these crowds dissipate is because he didn't do the miracles that they thought he would do in Jerusalem? And isn't that a commentary on the whole New Testament?
