Carl Marx was the son of a pretty prosperous man who owned land and vineyards. His father sent him to the university, expecting that he would act responsibly. The expenses for the honeymoon were paid for by Marx's mother-in-law. He is known to have attended only two courses in his last year at the University of Berlin.
