The Venetians wanted to re dig a canal from the Nata the Red Sea. But this idea, it was eventually abandoned as after a bunch of research, it was decided that it would be too expensive and too impractical. The Ottomans themselves who were then rule Egypt in name at least for the next 500 years or so, they began to investigate the idea of a canal just as Venice had wanted.
