How can ordinary people get more adventure in their lives? Who are all these weird people climbing insane mountains, flying in wing suits? And what lies between the gap of people with private jets and unlimited equipment and just ordinary people with a job? How can we explore the edges of our capabilities and have more fun without these unrealistic additional requirements? Well that is a topic very dear to my heart, so welcome to the Growth Mindset Podcast. I wouldn't define myself as someone spectacularly amazing or born to do great things. But I have managed to hitchhike across Kazakhstan, I visited North Korea, and I did finish an entire ultramarathon with a broken leg.
Alastair Humphreys is the author of my all-time favourite books on the topic of adventure and getting more out of life.
He was awarded the National Geographic Adventurer of the Year award for his work. He cycled around the world over four years and has since rowed the Atlantic, ran the Marathon de Sables, and walked across India amongst numerous other adventures.
Perhaps his greatest success, however, is pioneering the concept of micro-adventures, encouraging anyone to experience the outdoors and thrillseeking within an hour of their doorstep.
